Yes, I’m referring to the game Serious Sam 3. In it, you take on the role of a soldier who is just as powerful as one of the world’s most famous super villains. In this installment, you have to take on many different enemies from around Earth and beyond who have been given temporary powers from the evil Phobos. You also have lots of weapons at your disposal that should be more than enough to deal with any problem a towering boss might present. This game means business and it shows. It’s more than enough to make you question your own sanity after taking on the baddies for several hours. Rosinante is the protagonist of the game. He’s serious, stubborn, and more than willing to take on anything that stands in his way of destroying Phobos once and for all. Rosinante has had previous encounters with Phobos before but was eventually put down after being possessed by him. This left both Rosinante and Sam incapacitated for a while, giving Phobos the chance to grow more powerful than ever before. Serious Sam 3 is probably one of the most visually stunning games I’ve ever played. Everything looks so vivid that it’s almost hard to believe this was done in real time instead of being rendered out in the background. The game has undergone several graphical upgrades since its initial release date. This includes a DirectX 11 engine, many different texture sets, support for parallax mapping, and high definition models. There are five episodes in Serious Sam 3 with each episode consisting of 10 levels. There are over 100 levels to play through in all so players won’t run out of content any time soon once they get started on the game. Although this game wasn’t even released until 2011, I’ve been playing it since it came out in 2010. I’ve had a chance to play the first two games as well, but this is the first time I’m going into a new installment. What I can say for certain right now is that Serious Sam 3 is a masterpiece of a first person shooter. This veteran of shooting games has been knocked down many times, but always comes back for more. In some ways, the only thing holding me back from giving this game a perfect score is how hard it can be sometimes to progress through all the levels without getting frustrated along the way. This is a problem that a lot of first person shooters have but I don’t know how it could be fixed. With that being said, I’ve had more fun playing this game than almost any other shooter in the last several years. Serious Sam 3 is available for PC and Xbox 360. This game really isn’t that old yet (this is only the third game in the series) so you shouldn’t have too much difficulty finding it in retail stores or online shops like Amazon.
